What is sexting? Sexting is becoming common among our youth with age of instant technology. So what is it? Sexting is the practice of sending nude or provocative pictures by text message. While most of us think our kids would never do such a thing, recent reports show up to 20% of teenagers are indeed sexting. So we need to understand why this happens. First of all is peer pressure. Usually it starts out with a boyfriend asking his girl to text him a picture which she thinks will stay close to his heart. But we all know teens are going to brag and show the pictures to all their friends! The entertainment industry certainly doesn't help with nudity and provocative films all around us.
Secondly is technology. With the age of instant messaging girls do not think before they do something stupid! Once the text is sent the problems avalanche into ruined reputations and lives as well. Remember sexting is a felony as well. So talk to your kids even though it maybe uncomfortable and let them know to stop before they do something wrong. Tell them to talk to you about any problems they are having. Sexting is becoming more common so we must be on the lookout and protect our kids!
